Salmonella killer for animal feed
Hamecodox 1 is designed to decontaminate harmful bacteria in feed stuffs (especially salmonella, campylobacter and E.coli ) used in feed to prevent recontamination of the final feed compound. By using a mixture of formic and propionic acids the decontamination is obtained at a higher PH than with a single acid.
Hamecodox 1 is based on organic acids ( proionic & formic acids ) and their salts .
Hamecodox 1 has Propionic acid and formic acid that are used in animal nutrition in particular for preserving and ensiling harvested produce and feedstuffs and, in addition, for nutritional effects.

The acids act by intervening specifically in the metabolism of the microorganisms involved in spoilage.
In addition, the reduction in the pH creates an environment which is unfavorable for microorganisms. These feed additives thus also have a beneficial effect on digestion and utilization of nutrients in non-ruminants. This results, especially in young stock, in an improvement in the live weight gains and the feed conversion, and in prevention of diarrhoea.
Both (propionic & formic ) acids can be used very effectively for controlling salmonellae in raw
components or in compound feed.
Mixtures of propionic and formic acids moreover show synergistic effects. An appropriate combination of propionic and formic acids will provide the optimal solution to particular problems.

Mode of action:
The mode of action of Hamecodox 1 is based on reducing the pH in feed and on the anti-microbial activity of the acids, especially formic acid. The PH of feed should be close to 4 in order to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria, e.g. salmonella. The anti-microbial activity is based on the ability of the dissociated form of the acids to penetrate into the bacterial cell, where they are dissociated to protons and anions. Protons lower the PH inside the cell, which disrupts the pH balance. Re-establishment of the PH balance consumes energy from cell growth and inhibits the synthesis of several vital macromolecules. The dissociated anion has a disruptive effect on DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. These changes prevent pathogenic bacteria from multiplying in feed.
